Enzo Stella Maris first campsite with GSTC sustainability certification

Camping Enzo Stella Maris, a five-star accommodation facility inserted in the environmental context of Cavallino-Treporti, home of outdoor tourism, is the first campsite on the whole national territory to have obtained the GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council) certification, demonstrating an active commitment to sustainable tourism. The certification is assigned by Vireo, the body accredited by ASI (Assurance Services International) to manage GSTC certifications.

Obtaining the certification puts in black and white the path taken over the years by the structure for the reduction of environmental impacts, the local cultural enhancement and the maximization of social and economic benefits for the community; in addition to marking an important starting point for new challenges, in accordance with the 17 SDGs – Sustainable Development Goals, or the sustainable development goals of the UN 2030 Agenda, developed “to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all” .

Sustainability is an important part of Enzo Stella Maris’ core business. In fact, this campsite has always promoted investments with a view to environmental and social sustainability. But his commitment is not limited to paper, but is made up of details, attention, research, study, training and even investments. Behaviors that concretely reflect a philosophy that speaks of sustainability at 360 degrees.

«We started the procedures to obtain the certification in April – explains Mattia Enzo, owner of Camping Enzo Stella Maris – and at the beginning of August we achieved the result. Without fear, indeed with satisfaction, we explained to the two Vireo evaluators all the practices we implement in order to be responsible, first of all, towards the environmental and social context in which we are inserted. Then leaving to them the task of verifying what is presented, coming into contact with the structure, the staff, the guests ».

Even camping guests, as well as employees and suppliers, are required to follow a few simple rules for a responsible and environmentally friendly stay, for example the reduction of water waste, energy saving, the use of recyclable goods. and the practice of correct separate collection. «We firmly believe in the value of social sustainability – continues Enzo – and for this reason we mainly turn to local suppliers, as well as in the recruitment of collaborators. With regard to respect for the environment, then, we try to transmit it transversally to our loyal guests, for example by inviting them to use sustainable means for tours in the area, or to respect resources. All the choices we make, in fact, to some extent affect the world around us. This is why we try to make the guests who choose us more sensitive and aware to come and spend their moments of relaxation in a truly unique environment, which knows how to give great experiences and emotions. Sensations that this territory can offer as it is protected by entrepreneurs who know how to take care of it, precisely because the choice of each one can affect to some extent the ecosystem (environmental or social) that surrounds us “.

The same offer is combined with respect for the most important values underlying social life and precisely this particular attention to the environment and the person is one of the factors of customer loyalty who experience the campsite as a second home, welcoming and safe. The five pillars of sustainability, reported in the report and which favored the release of the certification, highlight this commitment:

  1. Protection of the environment and love for nature and natural habitats;
  2. The direct relationship with the customer;
  3. The enhancement of the destination and the territory: the campsite is part of the Cavallino Treporti “Tourist Park”, which in turn is part of the DMO (Destination Management Organization) plan and is therefore strongly active throughout the territory in terms of promotional relaunch the activity and tourist offer of Cavallino Treporti;
  4. Staff involvement and training;
  5. Inclusion and accessibility.

A concrete commitment, therefore, but one that is not satisfied. For 2022 and future years, Camping Enzo Stella Maris is in fact already projected towards other sustainability objectives, such as the purchase of additional photovoltaic panels to increase the share of renewable energy sources; the increase of certified suppliers from a sustainable perspective, raising awareness of the supply chain; the reduction of single-use plastics in favor of recyclable ones; the reduction of the use of paper supports by favoring digital tools; the reduction of water waste; encourage the sale of “Made in Cavallino” products with the aim of enhancing the local artisan culture and recognizing Cavallino-Treporti as a brand, enhancing its reputation both internationally and nationally; finally, the objective of monitoring CO2 consumption and calculating the correct capture of emissions thanks to the tree species, consequently setting compensation objectives. Concrete commitments, for a truly better and sustainable future for all.
