Held in the small and beautiful town of Sant Pere Pescador was the 6th edition of the Girocamping Pro, an event organized by the 74 members of theGirona Camping Association to honor the leading entrepreneurs and companies in the sector.
This important celebration of the Spanish open air industry brings together companies, suppliers, and government representatives in an elegant and festive atmosphere. The most anticipated moment of the evening was the presentation of awards to open air professionals who have distinguished themselves for their contribution to the development and growth of campgrounds in the region.
The ceremony was attended by several political figures, including the mayor of Sant Pere Pescador, Agustí Badosa, the president of the Girona Provincial Council, Miquel Noguer, the sub-delegate of the Girona government, Pere Parramon, and the deputy director general of Tourism Management and Inspection of the Government of Catalonia, Anna Martínez.
One of the most important awards of the evening was the Jaume Genover i Roig Prize 2024, awarded to entrepreneur Joan Carles Alcántara, owner of the Las Palmeras campsite in Sant Pere Pescador. As reported by campingprofesional.com : ” With a career dating back to the 1970s, Alcántara has been a benchmark in campground management for more than 20 years. Since he took over the management of Las Palmeras in 1991, together with his wife Pilar Roca, he has managed to transform it into a family campground in harmony with its natural surroundings. Today his son Romà manages the campground, which covers seven hectares and has 280 pitches and 40 bungalows. “
This was followed by the Josep Suñé Award was awarded to Toni Castellar, director of La Ballena Alegre campsite in Sant Pere Pescador, gratifying his 28 years of experience in the sector that have enabled the facility to consolidate and make it a benchmark in sustainability and digitalization. An achievement also made possible through the promotion of several innovative initiatives, which have helped position La Ballena Alegre as one of the most virtuous campsites in the country, as well as one of the best campsites on the Costa Brava.
The award Girocamping 2024 went to Darnés Grup, a key supplier of campsites in Girona, for its support for the transformation of the tourism sector in the region, which is recognized at the European level.
Finally, the awarding of the Camping of the Year Award, awarded through customer voting, was given to La Ballena Alegre, which won the second award of the evening.
The next appointment of Girocamping Pro will celebrate its 7th edition next September 25, 2025.
