Eight billion in sales per year, 11.4 million arrivals in 2024 (+3.5 percent over 2023), 71 million presences (+1.3 percent over 2023): these are the national figures for open-air tourism, which has more than 2,600 facilities in Italy with a total of about 1.5 million beds. A fast-growing sector thanks in part to investments in innovation, digitization and sustainability.
An encouraging incipit was the one that opened the curtain of the conference “THE FUTURE IS OPEN AIR,” which took place yesterday, September 21, in Lazise (Verona), an event organized by FAITA Federcamping to raise awareness of sustainability among outdoor tourism businesses. The perspective is that of an increasingly green and open tomorrow, a winning combination that is summed up in quality accommodation and experiential stays. An open-air trend that is increasingly felt in Veneto, which closes the 2024 summer tourist season with textbook numbers despite adverse weather conditions in the initial months.
According to CISET’s processing of ISTAT data for FAITA Federcamping, the region leads the national open-air supply ranking, which on the beds side accounts for 17.7 percent of the national total, along with Tuscany (14 percent).
FAITA Federcamping president Alberto Granzotto confirms the positive trend of open air: “The strongest performance is in the Northeast, but throughout Italy unprecedented expansion and evolution in terms of quality is taking place. Results that must be attributed to the investments made by companies on all fronts, including that of inclusion. So much so that, after today’s appointment, we decided to place ourselves among the privileged subjects in the discussion with institutions by organizing the 1st Open Air Forum, to be held in Rome on October 28 and 29.“.
The conference was an opportunity for meeting and discussion, attended by institutional representatives and entrepreneurs in the sector, to discuss the future prospects and challenges of the industry. Speakers included the head of the League’s delegation to the European Parliament Paolo Borchia, vice-chairwoman of the EP’s Industry, Research and Energy Committee Elena Donazzan, Lombardy Region Tourism Councillor Barbara Mazzali, Veneto Region Tourism Directorate Director Mauro Giovanni Viti, the president of the Conference of Mayors of the Veneto Coast Roberta Nesto, the mayor of the Municipality of Lazise Damiano Bergamini, the head of the CISET research area Valeria Minghetti, the Ceo of HBenchmark Francesco Traverso, university professors and entrepreneurs in the sector, including Sergio Redaelli, CEO of Crippaconcept.
