FNHPA: dismantling a mobile home at Salon SETT 2024 to highlight the importance of environmental footprint

La FNHPA, Fédération nationale de l’Hôtellerie de Plein Air, represents all facilities that offer nature-friendly vacations that respect nature. For the federation, the environment is a serious matter, and they demonstrated this again at Salon SETT 2024 and the federation’s 50th congress, not only by bringing themes to raise awareness but also concretely by dismantling a mobile home.

With 20,000 mobile homes produced and sold each year, the issue of the environmental footprint of this industry is becoming increasingly important, especially when it comes to the necessary recycling of these rental properties. FNHPA is very concerned about the sustainable and environmentally friendly nature of the end-of-life disposal practices of these structures.

With this practical demonstration, FNHPA wanted to highlight the existence of a real mobile home dismantling and recycling industry, in collaboration with Eco Mobil-home, an organization committed to this industry, and its members, the leading manufacturers of mobile homes for leisure on the French market (IRM, Mobil-Home Rideau, Mobil-Home Louisiane, O’Hara, Résidences Trigano and Rapidhome).

The dismantling operation required considerable resources and the operation of a team on hand, complete with truck, mechanical shovel and container to remove, load and contain the dismantled materials. The process took nearly 4 hours, as is necessary in a campground, under real conditions, to restore the pitch to its original state.

The dismantling process involved two main steps: manual removal of the inner lining and mechanical interventions on the structure. The objective was to highlight the types of materials involved in this operation, the weight and volume generated and, finally, the cost or revenue derived. A concrete and comprehensive example of a practice that must be carried out with accuracy in order to properly protect the environment and optimize work.
