FAITA Tuscany, about 10 million presences in open air facilities in 2024

Approximately 10 million presences were recorded at campsites and tourist villages in Tuscany. This was declared by the FAITA Tuscany Association at the assembly held on the last April 9, during which the first data provided by the TSA related to 2024 were presented. The meeting was chaired by newly elected FAITA Tuscany President Claudio Galassi, FAITA Tuscany Director Enrico Paoli, Tuscany Region’s Economy and Tourism Councillor Leonardo Marras, and Florence Tourist Study Center Director Alessandro Tortelli.

Positive and growing numbers that confirm the role of theopen air as an increasing carrier for the regional tourism sector: according to data from the Center for Tourism Studies in 2024, 23 percent of overnight stays by vacationers chose Tuscany as their vacation destination, a region that has more than 230 open-air accommodations , including resorts and campgrounds.

According to the data, of the more than 10 million admissions to open-air facilities in 2024, 55.5 percent are Italian tourists, mainly from Tuscany, Lombardy, Piedmont, Lazio and Emilia-Romagna, while 44.5 percent represent foreign tourists, with admissions coming from Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, France and Poland.

FAITA Tuscany President Claudio Galassi said, “The data provided by the Center for Tourism Studies is very interesting and should be read carefully, because 2024 was quite a peculiar year because of the economic situation we are going through, but in spite of this we recorded, especially with the foreign tourist flow, a good increase and this gives us hope for 2025 as well.”

Such an achievement has been made possible by the excellence of so many facilities, capable of offering a varied range of services to all types of travelers, from families with children to those staying with their four-legged friends. Proposals in line with an increasingly green, innovative, sustainable and closely linked to nature, without sacrificing comfort.

The president adds, “In recent years we have witnessed an evolution of open-air facilities, which have been able to grasp and read in advance the demands of the market, which is looking for higher and higher quality standards and a wide range of services that can meet their needs during their stay, paying more and more attention to environmental sustainability and trying to safeguard the landscape, the territory, and contact with nature.”

Testifying to the growth and corroborating the data, there also emerges a signal closely linked to guest opinion: theincrease in reviews posted by users on Booking, Google and Tripadvisor. As can be seen from the FAITA Federcamping statement: the elaborations carried out by the CST on these three platforms showed that from 2018 to 2024, the points of interest of holidaymakers, spread over about 50 Tuscan municipalities, increased from 191 to 212, while the digital tracks from 15,438 to 24,953.

The data concerning the satisfaction expressed by visitors about the facilities where they stayed is significant: foreign tourists reward Tuscan villages and campsites more than Italian tourists, registering a score of 83.8/100 versus81.4/100.
