It is called Pickleball and combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. This sporting activity is spreading rapidly internationally and is gaining popularity in Italy as well. Because of its special characteristics, it has been intercepted by the open-air world to make stays in camping facilities increasingly interactive.
The FAITA Federcamping federation has announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with The Pickleball Community Italy to spread this activity within the offer of camping facilities on the national territory.
The choice of pickleball, in addition to being a trend of the moment, is ideal for the open-air setting: it is a sport suitable for everyone, playable by young and old alike, requiring neither high technical skills nor complex structural investments. Pickleball courts also require limited space, easily adaptable even to pre-existing structures.
Among the most relevant aspects of the activity, the social dimension stands out since it is practiced in company, promoting aggregation and socialization, a perfect proposition to be carried out outdoors.
As reported by Sara Alvaro, a signature of Campingmanagement.online, the reference portal of FAITA Federcamping: “The agreement includes, during 2026, the organization of events, amateur tournaments, free trial sessions and training moments for operators. The goal is not only to enliven the facilities during the high season, but to build attractive occasions capable of: enriching the entertainment offer, attracting new targets sensitive to active tourism, encouraging deseasonalization through thematic events and stimulating the involvement of the local community as well.”
He concludes by emphasizing, ” Sports tourism, in this sense, becomes a tool for territorial activation and competitive differentiation.”
