In France there is a crisis for small campsites, which is why FNHPA (Federation Nationale de l’Hotellerie de Plean Air) has undertaken to find a new economic model. A confederal meeting organized on December 14 paved the way. From the report drawn up by the Alliances studio, with the support of Banque des Territoires, the profile of small and modest campsites was analysed, as well as their possible transformation imagined. The emergence of glamping and unusual accommodation has been recognized as a real opportunity to revive the sector.<\/p>\n\n
However, it is a real paradox for a sector that is doing well in France. The study conducted by Alliances reveals around 3,000 small campsites \u2013 less than 60 pitches \u2013 out of 7,569 establishments in the area. The length of stay is on average 4.7 days. The clientele is 69% French. The studio, in parallel, showed a real enthusiasm for accommodation that stands out, but also a desire for space and privacy. A first track which, implemented on a small establishment, could allow prices to be increased.<\/p>\n\n
If glamping and “unusual accommodation” (particularly luxurious and ultra-technological) are not yet viable solutions for all managers, diversification remains one of the resources to be evaluated even for “traditional” structures.<\/p>\n\n
France has 1,677 unusual domains, whose occupancy rate has remained stable in recent years. Rates range from \u20ac80 to \u20ac90 per night to more than \u20ac200 to \u20ac500 per night. Accommodations with private spas can generate up to 2.5 times more bookings with a 58% increase in average price. The average duration is instead 1.33 days (1.5 if the accommodation is comfortable and equipped with a kitchen and 1.17 if the comfort is basic).<\/p>\n\n
\u201cWe can no longer create collective tourist accommodation facilities. Hence the importance of preserving what already exists – highlighted the president of the FNHPA Nicolas Dayot -, why not relaunch the establishments that have closed?”.
