Soon, however, travelers and tourists also began to consult online guides and websites, being guided by search engines such as Google to find content suitable for their needs. More and more people are turning to social media for travel ideas and inspiration for their camping holidays. According to recent research conducted by online camping booking platform Pitchup.com, the hashtag #camping has over 10.7 billion views on video sharing platform TikTok. This fact cannot go unnoticed. TikTok, one of the newest social media, is gaining a young and growing audience. During the PitchUp study, a statistic was cited that states that TikTok and other similar platforms are gradually replacing Google as the main tool for finding travel ideas and inspiration. And it’s not the only study to support this trend.<\/p>\n\n
Arrivania, a major travel company, conducted its own research which revealed that nearly a third of travelers turn to social media for inspiration for their vacations. This further confirms the importance of social media as a source of ideas and tips for modern travellers.<\/p>\n\n
To take a deeper dive into this trend, Pitchup wanted to find out which countries had the most views of the hashtag #camping on TikTok, to pinpoint where this trend is picking up the fastest. Colombia took first place in the rankings. The South American nation surpassed all other countries with over 50 million views of the hashtag #camping on the video sharing platform. Followed by the United Kingdom with 38 million views, Australia with 11 million, Mexico with 9 million and Brazil with 5 million. These countries make up the rest of the top five in the ranking.<\/p>\n\n
According to Pitchup’s report, Colombia’s diverse natural landscape and the presence of numerous national parks offer adventurers the opportunity to camp in exotic locations such as deserts surrounded by mountains, sea coasts, overlooking beautiful lakes and even rainforests. These unique sceneries may be just one of the reasons why camping and camping videos in Colombia have the most views on the TikTok platform.<\/p>\n\n
All this opens up new perspectives in the field of marketing in the travel industry. Considering the growing interest of users in social media, especially TikTok, companies in the sector should seriously consider directing part of their marketing strategies towards these platforms.
