Recent research conducted by the World Travel & Tourism Council<\/a><\/strong> (WTTC) and the \n Sustainable Tourism Global Center<\/a>\n<\/strong> (STGC), sponsored by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Tourism<\/strong>, reveal that the global Travel and Tourism sector is providing considerable employment opportunities for women and youth worldwide.<\/p>\n\n

Tourism employs women from Asia to America<\/h2>\n\n

The report shows a significant increase in the direct employment of women in the travel <\/strong>and tourism<\/strong> industry. Between 2010 and 2019, the number of female employees increased from 38.6 million to 47.8 million<\/strong>, registering a 24 percent increase <\/strong>. Thehospitality<\/strong> sector has confirmed itself as the leading “employer” for women, accounting for more than half of women’s employment in the World. Overall, women make up a larger share of employment in this sector than in the general economic workforce in Asia-Pacific <\/strong>and the Americas<\/strong>. The share of women employed in the hospitality sector in Africa <\/strong>has increased steadily since 2010, while female employment in the Middle East<\/strong> economy has grown significantly.<\/p>\n\n

Positive data also for youth employment<\/h2>\n\n

In addition, young workers <\/strong>were identified as an important component of the workforce, accounting for 15 percent of all<\/strong> jobs in both 2010 and 2021. This contrasts <\/strong>with the global employment situation, where the share of young workers has dropped from 16.5 percent in 2010 to 12.5 percent in 2021, underscoring the importance of the Travel and Tourism sector for youth employment. <\/p>\n\n

Julia Simpson<\/strong>, President and CEO of WTTC<\/strong>, expressed pride in working with the Sustainable Tourism Global Center on this report with crucial numbers, emphasizing the profound positive impact<\/strong> of the tourism sector globally. Simpsion highlighted the contribution made to the creation of high-wage jobs for women. A contribution that is also in favor ofgender equity<\/strong>. H.E. Gloria Guevara<\/strong>, Special Advisor deSaudi Arabia’s Minister of Tourism.<\/strong>, regarded the joint report as an important milestone for the global travel and tourism industry and emphasized the importance of supporting quality employment for young people and women in order to develop an increasingly sustainable hospitality sector. <\/p>\n\n
