There is no crisis for open-air holidays: the numbers of 2019 have been exceeded

The first four months of the open-air tourist season in Italian campsites and tourist villages exceed the data for 2019. In the first quarter of 2022, open-air hospitality businesses recorded + 8% of arrivals and + 7% of presences over 2019. The data was released by Faita Federcamping, which carried out a survey among 2,650 companies in the related sector. to the period January-April 2022. If these trends continue in September, the trade association underlined, arrivals will reach 10.7 million with over 73 million presences and a massive presence, equal to 57%, of foreign customers.

The performances in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2021 were more conspicuous, on average in the order of + 17%, but last season it was still heavily influenced by the sharp decrease in foreign guests due to anti- covid. This year, however, the presence of guests from Germany and Austria has returned, which together with arrivals from Denmark, the Czech Republic and Poland accounted for over 75% of arrivals from abroad. The period of stay has extended from 6.8 days in 2019 to the current 7 days.

However, not growing at the same pace, Faita points out, were the revenues and margins, which decreased significantly due to the growth in energy costs (+ 300% for gas and +400 for electricity). Despite this, the association points out, the prices in the structures have not registered significant increases.
