For camping enthusiasts who want to experience off-grid power in a light and affordable way, a Milan-based start-up might have the perfect solution. Levante, founded in 2021, is about to launch a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds and create the world’s first origami-inspired solar panels. A new tool that could revolutionize the camping experience, offering a portable and powerful solution to meet the energy needs of campers and camping pitches.
The limits of current solutions: according to Sara Plaga, co-founder of Levante, despite the widespread use of renewable energy in mobility, current solar panels still have many limitations. Hardboards, while powerful, are bulky, heavy, and require permanent installation. This makes them unsuitable for a mobile context such as camping. On the other hand, portable solar panels are fragile, bulky, and not powerful enough to cover energy needs while traveling. These limitations force many campers to look for alternatives which often involve noise and air pollution, as well as additional fuel costs.
To solve these problems, Levante was inspired by the solar panels used in satellites and the modular design of Lego bricks. The result? Revolutionary patented solar panels, compact and foldable, which take up less space than traditional models (more than eight times smaller when closed). These panels, 100% made in Italy, offer an exceptional power of 500 watts, currently the highest on the market. Their rigid structure opens easily, ensuring efficient collection of solar energy during the day, and folds easily when the batteries are fully charged or when moving.
Thanks to the solar panels inspired by the origami of the East, campers and inside the camping pitches will be able to enjoy a clean and renewable energy source during stays in the open air.
