For the third consecutive year, the Pahlm association (Artistic Practices Outside the Walls) is organizing an artist residency at various campsites in Occitania. After tackling the theme “Painting on canvas… of tents” in 2021, it was the turn of caravans to be at the center of artistic research since last year.
Four Rapido Confort caravans were entrusted to the artists, who had a week available to transform the campers into works of art. The caravans have become true three-dimensional paintings, as well as remaining living spaces, transformed into traveling exhibitions and meeting places, mobile works of art.
Marlène Côtelette presented her painted caravan in 2022 at the Le Casties campsite. From 9 to 16 July, it was Virginie Loze’s turn, who brought her suitcases and brushes to the Sites & Paysages Le Moulin campsite, in Martres-Tolosane (31). Emmanuelle Mason is at the Plan d’eau campsite, in Rieux Volvestre (31), from 23 to 30 July. Morane Leder will occupy the space from 6 to 13 August at the Le Casties campsite in Casties-Labrande (31), while Debby Barthoux will be at the Le Fun campsite in Fitou (11), from 26 August to 2 September.
This innovative project combines art and nature, giving artists the opportunity to express themselves through the transformation of simple caravans into traveling works of art. The transformed caravans have become temporary homes for the artists, but also exhibition spaces able to integrate harmoniously with the surrounding environment. The initiative represents a fascinating way to bring art closer to the public and to allow artists to experiment with new ways of interacting with their work in a unique and inspiring context such as that of the campsite.
