Girocamping PRO is a leading event in the camping sector which took place on 28 September inside the prestigious Municipal Theater of Lloret, in the Spanish region of Girona. The conference brought together a large group of high-level experts and almost 300 participants, all with a common goal: to encourage tourism deseasonalization and retain talent in the camping sector.
Deseasonalization: here are the data that certify the success
The combined efforts between Girona’s campsites have demonstrated that deseasonalization has become a tangible reality, as evidenced by the occupancy data of the facilities. In May this year, occupancy increased by 18% compared to the same period in 2022, and even in September there was growing demand, especially in senior tourism from France and the Anglo-Saxon world.
The president of the Girona Camping Association highlighted the crucial importance of extending the tourist season not only into the high season but also into the pre- and post-season. This approach allows us to attract and retain the best company leaders and staff within the structures, a long desired objective that allows us to offer higher quality services thanks to a more qualified workforce.
Commitment to sustainability
Another resonating topic within Girocamping PRO was the emphasis placed on sustainability in the camping sector. It was underlined that over the last 25 years we have worked tirelessly to make the camping offer increasingly sustainable and respectful of the environment. The push for the adoption of renewable energy sources, such as solar panels, has been highlighted. However, obstacles have been reported in connecting excess energy – generated through these sources – to the electricity grid, so a call has been made to administrations for greater responsibility and cooperation regarding issues affecting the sector.
Collaboration and innovation
The congress, organized by the Camping Association of Girona, brought together professionals from the camping and tourism sector in an environment of sharing and networking. A notable research project on the history of camping in Catalonia, led by the University of Girona (UdG), has been presented, highlighting the importance of preserving the memory of the sector. The round tables addressed crucial topics such as the meeting between supply and demand of professionals, the importance of talent as a distinctive corporate value and the ecological certification of tourist facilities.
Looking at the future
Girocamping PRO 2023 was a key moment for the camping sector in Girona. Unity, innovation and commitment to sustainability have been highlighted enough to be recognized as the pillars on which the success of the camping business in Girona rests.
