The Dutch Frisian Islands and theIsland of Texel, which belongs to the province of Noord-Holland, are perfect destinations for those who love authentic realities, made up of ancient traditions and strong ties to their surroundings. Time here seems to have a completely different pace than in the rest of the country, and life flows slowly and relaxed. In the fishing villages, Frisian, a recognized language, is proudly spoken, and in the countryside, grazing flocks of sheep move like clouds across the green meadows, idylls that seem straight out of fairy tales, contrasting with the salt marshes and mudflats, desolate but at the same time fascinating landscapes of the coastal plains of the Waddenzee, incredible heritages of biodiversity included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2009.
Texel, Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog, are islands surrounded by the Wadden Sea to the south, and the North Sea to the north, beautiful destinations to reach during the warm season. The best time is between May and September, as there is less rainfall and many hours of sunshine, but October can also be very pleasant.

In addition to hiking trails, there is a well-developed network of bicycle paths that run parallel to the coast or in small towns, an idyll that becomes a necessity since cars are not allowed in some of West Frisian. Bicycles are always allowed on board the ferries, which offer a very efficient and punctual service during the summer season.
