Federalberghi and Faita: renewal of the National Collective Labour Agreement for Tourism

Last July 5, 2024, Federalberghi and Faita, with the participation of Confcommercio, together with the workers’ unions Filcams-Cgil, Fisascat-Cisl and Uiltucs-Uil, stipulated the Renewal of the National Collective Labor Agreement for employees of companies in the tourism sector, including those in the open air world.

An important milestone that took its time to seal: negotiations had begun on February 27, 2020, just days before the lockdown. The pandemic has held back the progress of the work, and over the years it has not been the only factor that has caused the process to trudge on as more damage has been added, caused by soaring energy prices, wars and geopolitical tensions, and adverse weather events.

The overall picture determined a scale of priorities, and for about three years labor relations gave priority to emergency management and safeguarding enterprises and jobs.

Reporting the statement of Federalberghi President Bernabò Bocca: “Today, with a market that is finally in normal conditions, the parties have returned to focus their attention on the development prospects of the tourism economy. We did this with an agreement that achieves the right balance between the needs of workers and those of businesses, both on the economic and regulatory sides. I wish the tourism community well in its work and trust that this important understanding will help all those who work in our industry to derive deserved satisfaction from their efforts.”

To whom is the contract applied?

According to official INPS data, there are more than 28,000 companies, about 290,000 workers, with peaks of more than 400,000 during the summer period that will apply the CCNL.

The contract applies to workers employed in hotels, tourist resorts, campgrounds, hostels, bed and breakfasts, vacation homes and apartments and, more generally, in all tourist accommodation, hotel and non-hotel activities.

According to CNEL data, the collective bargaining agreement that was renewed by Federalberghi and Faita is by far the most representative collective bargaining agreement in the hospitality tourism sector, being applied to more than 81 percent of employees (the remaining share is pulverized among eighteen other minor contracts).
