“Schwarzwald”, the Black Forest is one of the most beautiful parts of the country, a corner between France and Switzerland that holds all the magic of an area rich in history and culture, surrounded by lush unspoiled nature.
The main feature is the coniferous forests that cloak the landscape, spruces so dense that they create a homogeneous dark-colored texture, with shady undergrowth due to the little light that filters in from above, a true “black forest.” It was the ancient Romans who coined this toponym that has come down to us, and which perfectly describes its incredible and mysterious charm.

The Black Forest then, is its nature. Black Forest National Park
The treasure of the region is the Black Forest National Park, which is divided into the northern and southern parts. It is possible to travel through this green lung on foot, by bicycle, on horseback, and during the winter period, on cross-country skis and snowshoes.
For cycling enthusiasts, it is impossible not to mention the Black Forest Panoramic Bike Trail , which runs on paved paths for about 280 kilometers following the area of the long eastern slope of the park, from Pforzheim in the north, known as the gateway to the Black Forest, to Waldshut-Tiengen on the Swiss border.
The most beautiful roads
La Schwarzwaldhochstrasse, is the main road in the Black Forest, scenic and beautiful, ideal to travel with an RV. In addition to providing beautiful views, some routes follow interesting thematic routes that can be cultural, religious, or related to local productions such as schnapps or wine.
Alternatively, the Black Forest Spa Road, passes through some of the best spa towns, while the Northern Black Forest Monastery Road, crosses some important historical and cultural sites, including the Monastery of Maulbronn, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Trekking enthusiasts, too, will be spoiled for choice and the opportunity to embark on many routes with varying degrees of difficulty. TheBlack Forest High Route is among the most renowned in the Northern Black Forest Nature Park, located between the cities of Karlsruhe and Stuttgart, but the southern part also reveals enchanting routes that explore the southern area of the Park, which stretches between the cities of Freiburg and Basel.
