Cavallino-Treporti is Italy’s leading seaside resort in terms of tourist presence, a popular destination also for staying in open-air facilities. In 2023 it reached an all-time record, confirmed by an astonishing number of presences: 6,731,661, largely due to the campsites on its territory.
Further recognition comes from the Stuttgart trade fair where as many as nine facilities present in Cavallino Treporti have been honored and, a good portion of its campsites, can boast four and five stars from the prestigious ADAC guide (the most important one compiled by the German automobile club).
But what is the secret of so much success?
The mayor of Cavallino-Treporti Roberta Nesto, as president of the G20 beaches municipalities, has fought to give municipalities like Cavallino Treporti the regulatory tools to be able to cope with the high number of tourists in the spring and summer seasons.
“That achieved in 2023 is an extraordinary figure because being the first Italian resort for beach tourism is the result of the work of everyone: operators, administrators, residents. We are in first place in Italy because in addition to confirming the excellent results in the key months of the summer, when we record a full house, we have done a great job of welcoming our guests in the other season, in April, September and October. Last year in May, for example, we grew by 40 percent. This is proof that focusing on seasonal adjustment, on experiential opportunities, must be increasingly central to beach resorts “.
As outlined by Faita Veneto, the municipality has invested in cycleways with over 20 million of its own investment and has proposed a plan to also enhance the Mose and make it a tourist attraction. Cavallino Treporti has also masterfully handled the proper management of tourist flows by allowing municipalities to govern rather than be governed (the reference is to neighboring Venice struggling with overturism).
This is confirmed by Roberta Nesto herself, recalling how hers is an “accordion” municipality because of the different periods in which it goes from a small population to over 200,000 people a day, but this does not discourage the administration. Of course, there is no shortage of difficulties, but Cavallino Treporti, thanks to the open-air facilities on its territory, has been able to make a name for itself internationally and become Italy’s leading seaside resort.
