Apulia, start of the call for Open Air tourism

As of Thursday, March 27, the regional call dedicated to outdoor tourism, support for the construction and redevelopment of equipped areas for rest and refreshment, mini-caravan areas and parking hubs along nature, landscape and cycling routes, including the itineraries of the regional “cammini” (hiking trails), is operational. An important incentive for Puglia’s outdoor tourism sector as well as an opportunity for the redevelopment of some areas of the territory.

2 million 135 thousand euros are planned in order to strengthen the infrastructure system of Puglia’s itineraries, improving accessibility, environmental sustainability, usability of regional attractions and livability of areas with a strong tourist vocation.

Apulia Region Tourism Councilor Gianfranco Lopane says, “This intervention represents a great opportunity for Apulian municipalities: it enables them to strengthen reception and improve services along nature trails, walking paths and cycle paths. Working on infrastructure and services related to tourism products means expanding the offer and making Puglia even more attractive throughout the year “.

He concludes, “We want to consolidate the positioning of our region as a reference destination for experiential and outdoor tourism, both nationally and internationally. The data confirm the constant growth of this segment: in the last year alone, the credentials of walkers have increased by 48 percent, with important economic impacts on the territories crossed. With this call for over 2.1 million euros, we are creating the conditions for our destinations to intercept new flows and enhance the landscape and cultural heritage that we guard “.

Who can participate in the call

Municipalities and Unions of Municipalities in Puglia interested in nature, landscape and bicycle touring routes can participate in the call. Each municipality can submit only one project with a maximum amount of 1 million euros, and a minimum of 250 thousand euros, co-financing at least 50 percent of the investment with its own resources. In any case, the regional contribution may not exceed the sum of 500 thousand euros.

The operational management of the intervention is entrusted to Asset, which will coordinate project selection and monitoring activities.

The deadline for municipalities to submit applications is 60 days after the publication of the notice in the Official Bulletin of the Apulia Region, March 27, 2025.
