Camping Report 2024: Apulia, Tuscany and Sardinia lead in Italians’ preferences

With the summer season just around the corner, the desire for outdoor vacations is back. A growing interest for the large number of vacationers who wish to spend a stay en plein air, confirmed by data from the Camping Report (CaRe) by Campsites.com by Koobcamp, the leading open-air tourism network designed to offer client facilities and tourists effective, state-of-the-art solutions.

According to data from the ’24 report, already in the first quarter of the year there was a 28 percent increase in terms of searches for the summer season compared to the same period in 2023, thanks to milder temperatures and the desire for sun and relaxation.

Choosing outdoor vacations are mostly families, who alone account for about 75 percent of the total. The remaining 25 percent are couples 10 percent, small groups 10 percent, and only travelers 5 percent, percentages that confirm the trend of traveling in company.

From user research, the most popular services also emerge:animation and entertainment for the little ones, followed by pet friendly activities, for traveling with four-legged friends as well. Sports are also very popular, in line with an active outdoor vacation.

Accommodations and permanence

For outdoor stay, 65 percent of users prefer village accommodation, and the choice falls on mobile homes, glamping and bungalows, ideal solutions for spending vacations immersed in nature, but without sacrificing comfort and privacy. The remaining 35 percent, on the other hand, prefer camping, between RV and tent sites.

In terms of length of stay, the data shows an increase in duration: in 2023, most Italian travelers were looking for one-week summer vacation solutions (34 percent), while this year, the stay stretches, on average, to 9 days, however, leading to a greater focus on the wallet.

Cristian Capizzi, CEO of KoobCamp, explains, “After a complex year during which prices rose, Italians are more likely to keep an eye on their spending. At the same time, however, they seem to need to indulge in a little extra relaxation: theTherefore, the goal is to find solutions that combine quality and savings, without resorting to the hit-and-run vacation.” “This year, in fact, more days are available, but the average spending on the outdoor vacation is around 700 euros, about half of last year’s budget.”
