Eurostat, webinar on European Tourism

Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union, has scheduled for today, Wednesday, Sept. 18, a useful webinar on European Tourism open to all interested parties without the need to register.

From 3 to 4 p.m. it will be streamed on the website of Eurostat and on the Eurostat’s Facebook account an hour-long full immersion during which it will be possible to learn about but also interact, as there will be an opportunity to ask questions via Slido.

“Did you know that 12% of the nearly 3 billion nights spent in the EU in 2023 were spent in just 4 top regions? Canary Islands, Ile de France, Catalonia, and Adriatic Croatia recorded the same number of nights spent as Austria, Portugal, and the Netherlands combined “.

Did you know that in 2023, 719 million nights were spent in short-term rentals booked through Airbnb, Booking, Tripadvisor or Expedia? This means that nearly 2 million tourists per night slept in a bed booked through these platforms “.

These and many other questions, answers and, above all, numbers will be covered at this interesting event led by industry professionals who will present data on European tourism and cover the latest developments in statistics in relation to this important sector.

An opportunity to also point the focus on the recent innovative project regarding data sharing with Airbnb, Booking, Expedia Group and Tripadvisor, also will be introduced the recent innovations in tourism statistics and how statistical data interact with policy.The event will be opened by Petra Sneijers, acting director of business and trade statistics, followed by Christophe Demunter and Simon Bley of Eurostat’s tourism statistics unit. The two will present an overview of European tourism statistics and short-stay accommodation offered through online platforms.
