Faita press release, “State concessions: attention needs to be paid to the specificities of tourist accommodation businesses”

Faita Federcamping and Federalberghi turn extreme attention to the measure on sea, lake and river state concessions for tourism-recreational and sports purposes, which was approved yesterday by the Council of Ministers.

Hotels, campgrounds and resorts, in addition to sharing requirements common to the generality of beach establishments, have special characteristics that demand specific attention.

In fact, the concession constitutes an essential and decisive part of the offer provided by those tourist accommodation enterprises that make the accommodation services and the equipped beach available to guests in a single package.

Integration is such that guests would not use the accommodation services if beach services were not also available.

Therefore, if these enterprises were deprived of the concession they would suffer a double mutilation, which could not be compensated by the allocation of a new area in another location, perhaps distant from the accommodation facility.

In this scenario, the extension until September 2027 of the validity of current state-owned concessions, while appreciable as it opens a usable time window to seek appropriate solutions, is not in itself sufficient to solve the problems at hand.

Faita Federcamping and Federalberghi, while waiting for their bodies to convene for a timely assessment of the contents of the decree-law, are already calling for Parliament to improve its content, defining ad hoc measures for tourist accommodation facilities, as already done by the Greek legislature, in full compliance with European Union law.
