The outdoor tourism sector continues to attract the interest of major investors through investments in European campgrounds. In recent months, there has been a surge in financial transactions involving campground and vacation village chains, confirming that this sector is considered increasingly strategic and holds significant growth potential.
One of the most notable examples is Wecamp, a Spanish company specializing in open-air hospitality, which has announced a major expansion plan backed by 50 million euros in funding. The goal is to accelerate the acquisition and renovation of new facilities in Spain and Portugal, consolidating a network that currently includes 16 campgrounds.
A sector that is becoming increasingly attractive to investors
The transaction confirms a trend affecting the entire European market. Investment funds and financial institutions are showing growing interest in campgrounds, driven by the steady growth of outdoor tourism and the ever-increasing demand for nature-based vacations.
In recent years, many campgrounds have in fact increased their value by investing in glamping, sustainability, the digitization of services, and premium accommodations, transforming camping into an increasingly competitive tourism product.
Italy is also following this trend
This trend also affects our country. Among the most significant transactions is that of Club del Sole, which recently completed a major real estate deal involving some of its properties, retaining management of them and freeing up new financial resources to be allocated to the expansion of its network.
These are models that are already widespread in other sectors of the hospitality industry and are beginning to gain increasing traction in the outdoor tourism sector as well.
Growth Prospects
According to analysts, interest from major investors in European campgrounds is set to continue in the coming years. The growing number of campers, the rise of glamping, and the demand for high-quality experiences in nature are making the sector increasingly attractive from a financial standpoint as well.
For industry professionals, this is an important sign: outdoor tourism is no longer considered a niche segment, but one of the most dynamic sectors of the entire European tourism industry.
