The tourism sector in the Veneto region further boosts resources. According to the two resolutions published in the regional official gazette, two calls from the European Regional Development Fund were approved by the Council, with resolution no. 1046 of Sept. 10, 2024 (published in BUR No. 122 of Sept. 13, 2024): about 13.5 million euros to boost regional tourism.
For the second edition of the call “Regenerating businesses in the tourist accommodation sector by supporting their increased accessibility, technological development, digital and ecological transition” (approved by DGR No. 1640 of Dec. 22, 2023 and updated by DGR No. 154 of Feb. 2024), the Veneto Regional Council has allocated 12.4 million euros.
This call is aimed at promoting and supporting investments in the tourist accommodation system that promote the regeneration and innovation of enterprises and consequently the tourism enhancement of the area in which the same enterprise operates. In particular, the interventions are aimed at innovating businesses in the tourist accommodation sector by supporting their increased accessibility, technological development, digital and ecological transition, innovating services and products (e.g. through investments in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, home automation, use of alternative energy sources, etc.).
Originally, this call was supposed to provide €15 million, Federico Caner, tourism councilor and rapporteur of the proposal voted in the Council, explains why a lower figure was allocated: “In view of the applications received and evaluated the quality of the projects in the merit list, it was proposed to increase by a total of €12,467,105.39 the budget already allocated to the call, for the purpose of further scrolling the rankings of applications eligible for support.”
On the other hand, the secondcallapproved by the Council is the “Call for the evolution of Veneto’s tourism destinations into Smart tourism destinations” (approved by DGR No. 1639 of December 22, 2023). A flywheel for digitization to whose initial endowment of 2,500,000 euros is to be added 1,009,154.20 euros to allow the fundability of all 10 applications found eligible as a result of the merit list approved at the beginning of August.
For the Veneto region, the resources allocated to the tourism sector will be an additional incentive to make it even more competitive and a driving force in the national economy.
