The WTTC Global Summit is organized every year in one of the world’s major cities, and for the first time this year it was hosted in Italy, in Rome. The 2025 edition was contributed not only by the WTTC organic structure but also by the Ministry of Tourism, ENIT, Lazio Region and the Municipality of Rome, with delegates from five continents.
The WTTC Global Summit, in its role as the world’s benchmark event dedicated to tourism, has the ability to bring together institutions, leading tourism businesses globally. It is organized by the World Travel and Tourism Council, which with an organic structure of a permanent forum for the tourism industry sees within it the bulk of the business community interfacing with governments while also exchanging experiences and analysis.
In the context of this meeting, in fact, future developments in the tourism sector, the challenges that await operators also in terms of sustainability and innovation, and their implementation in the field of labor and digitalization are discussed and analyzed. In this context, strategic partnerships are also initiated and long-term agreements are closed: the workshops through which to network also bridge to future business exchanges with a broader spectrum than strictly tourism.
The big achievement this year is the arrival of investments in Italy, totaling more than 8 billion, the result of the collaborations born on the occasion of the event held in Rome and the visibility had in that context by the country’s companies: never before had any country benefited from such an economic return from the WTTC summit.
The opportunities and employment spin-offs generated by tourism in our country are estimated at more than 3 million jobs, contributing to the growth of local economies and the enhancement of Made in Italy excellence. Hospitality facilities will benefit from technologies and infrastructure, including open-air realities.
WTTC’s estimate is that nearly 15 percent of job basites by 2035 will be tourism-related. Our country must create opportunities even in those areas that are still little known and act as a development driver even in those regions and provinces that need an economic multiplier stimulus from these sectors.
From the Rome 2025 summit it emerged how Italy is not only a dream destination but a model, boasting a booming sector that contributes more than 237 billion euros to the economy, this year demonstrating true leadership in the sector. We must therefore make this positive feedback run fast and look to the future with optimism, without borders.
