The CampingVillage.Marketing team, the only specific project for the promo-marketing training of Italian campsite and village managers and professionals in the sector, has published its annual market survey on requests, expectations and search and booking methods of open-air tourists, for the sixth consecutive year.
The market survey is collected in a document that analyzes in detail the answers received in the survey aimed at open-air tourists in the first few days of February 2023, in which, through various questions, it was asked how they will organize their holidays in 2023. The sample of over a thousand tourists who responded to the survey is highly profiled, having been reached through the portals of the CampingVillage.Travel network, social campaigns, newsletters, sector blogs and discussion forums.
The questions addressed to open-air tourists are designed to understand how and when tourists are looking for ideas and solutions for their holidays and allow the data of 2023 to be compared with data from past years, to highlight new trends and new market needs . The aim is to share this data and the trends they manage to highlight with all open-air tourism professionals, to help them plan the right promotional actions, based on reliable data.
The CampingVillage.Marketing staff requested, analyzed and compared various topics with historical data, including:
- When will the tourists go on vacation?
- Where will they go on vacation?
- Will tourists return to a destination/property they’ve been to before?
- How do tourists organize their vacation?
- How do they book open air holidays?
- How many camping villages do they contact before booking?
- Why are they sending more requests?
- How do they choose the structure to contact and the one in which to book?
- What aspects of a Camping Village are fundamental?
- What services can add value to the open air tourist’s holiday?
A small advance with some news that emerged from the 2023 market survey:
- Open-air holidays in less crowded summer periods are growing compared to past years, and requests are always arriving earlier. The high season is therefore losing attendance, in favor of requests for low season periods.
- The sea remains the preferred destination for open-air tourists, but preferences towards cities of art and Italian villages are growing.
- The preferred contact tool for booking remains email, followed by portals and the telephone (which loses several percentage points compared to past years).
