The Girona Campsites Association has honored the entrepreneur Manel Solanas Salomó, founder and owner of the famous La Masia de Blanes campsite, by awarding him the Jaume Genover i Roig 2023 award. The award was given for his long and brilliant career in the camping sector camping and for the continuous commitment in the sector. The award is now in its ninth edition and represented one of the highlights of GirocampingPro, which was held in Lloret de Mar.
The awards ceremony was attended by the mayor of Girona, Adrià Lamelas, the director of the Catalan Tourism Agency, Narcís Ferrer, and the deputy of the Provincial Council of Girona and second vice-president of the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board, Joan Plana . Journalist Clara Sánchez-Castro hosted the event expertly.
During the evening, the Girocamping 2023 prize was awarded to the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board, motivated by its constant commitment to the region’s campsites and for its fundamental contribution to the promotion of a first-rate tourism sector at European level. Furthermore, a special recognition was given to the Fire Brigade of the Generalitat, by virtue of the important work carried out for the community. This prestigious award was collected by Joan Delort, general director of Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue, and Jordi Martín, head of the Emergency region of Girona.
In this edition, a new award was announced, the Josep Suñé Sabadí Award, designed to recognize the excellence of professional teams in the world of camping. An initiative that promises to further fuel the prestige of the sector.
The president of the Girona Camping Association, Miquel Gotanegra, expressed his gratitude for the contribution of entrepreneurs such as Manel Solanas Salomó, underlining how they have allowed the camping sector in Spain to achieve excellence and establish itself as a point of reference in Europe.
The La Masia de Blanes campsite, which boasts a history spanning four generations, was opened in 1959. This facility, spread over 13 hectares of land, has a total of 876 pitches, including bungalows, mobile homes, apartments and even a spa, among a wide range of services. The clientele is made up of Spanish, French and Dutch tourists.
As for the winner, Manel Solanas Salomó, his adventure in the world of camping began with his mother, Paquita Salomó, a true pioneer who started the business and welcomed the first tourists on a plot located in a picturesque area of pine trees, close to the orchard and the family farm. Since then, Manel Solanas has tirelessly collaborated with the Girona Campsites Association since its foundation, contributing significantly to consolidating and developing the sector.
