Cavallino-Treporti: Italy’s first seaside destination, European home of outdoor tourism

A stone’s throw from Venice, Cavallino-Treporti is Italy’s leading seaside resort in terms of tourist presence, popular destination for staying in open-air facilities as well. An historic record confirmed by last year’s astonishing numbers that surpassed even Rimini’s queen, which has always ranked first among beach destinations, ending 2023 with 6,731,661 admissions. This was an excellent result, thanks in part to last season’s good weather that allowed the many Guests to enjoy the sea, the beach and the beauty of the Venetian area to which the resort belongs.

Not just a beach success, the Cavallino-Treporti finish line enshrines it in the top five of Italian tourist destinations, after Rome, Venice, Milan and Florence. “The attendance figures are definitely an indication of guests’ appreciation ,” commented Assocamping president and Tourism Park Consortium president Francesco Berton and Mattia Enzo, both in terms of the type of vacation and the area in which the campsites and resorts are located. Not surprisingly, even and especially after the Covid pandemic, both arrivals and presences have continued to increase significantly in recent years. Even in the past season, there was a +12 percent increase in foreign tourists compared to the pre-pandemic period, bringing total arrivals to an all-time record for the entire Italian coast of 6,818,604. Almost 96 percent of these stayed in campgrounds and resorts.”

Staggering numbers but certainly not rained down from heaven, this achievement is the result of a lot of hard work. As Berton points out, “Our facilities have always worked to raise the quality of services offered higher and higher, making guests find something new every year and, above all, working to lengthen the season more and more.”

This was also confirmed by the mayor of Cavallino-Treporti Roberta Nesto: “The one achieved is therefore an extraordinary figure because being the first Italian resort for beach tourism is the result of the work of everyone: operators, administrators, residents. We are ranked first in Italy because in addition to confirming the excellent results in the key months of the summer, when we record a full house, we have done a great job of welcoming our guests in the other season, in April, September and October. Last year in May, for example, we grew 40 percent. It is proof that focusing on seasonal adjustment, on experiential opportunities must be increasingly central to seaside resorts.”

The result achieved includes the high season months, which have sold out for years now, and the low and mid season months, which annually increase the numbers. “The increase in attendance, according to data analysis, appears to cover the entire seasonal period, thus demonstrating a lengthening of the tail-end months – Berton and Enzo conclude -. This leads to important considerations, first and foremost, being able to provide more employment for workers in the area and beyond by being able to keep facilities open longer.”
