Open air remains a certainty amid the uncertainty that the conflict is bringing at the planetary level. Departure fears for long-distance travel and soaring fuel prices have led to a high number of cancellations and a sharp downsizing of international travel over the Easter period. Most affected are long-haul destinations to Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania, areas that use the conflict-affected hubs, Dubai, Doha, and Abu Dhabi airports, as stopovers in connections between Europe and the East.
In this geopolitical situation, which greatly impacts airline flights and stays abroad, proximity tourism stands out, especially in terms of the open air. A large number of Italians and foreigners have chosen open-air vacations to spend Easter days, aided by the many openings of the 2026 season. Important numbers have been recorded especially in Veneto, which confirms itself as the leader in the sector.
Easter 2026: the flourishing of open-air facilities in the Northeast
FAITA Federcamping, based on H-Benchmark data, declares the excellent results of Italian open air in terms of stays made during the Easter period, the first still of early season demand, which coincides with the reopenings of many facilities.
As FAITA Federcamping’s Camping Management portal reports, there are about 500,000 beds offered in at least 1,500 companies, mostly in the Northeast. And it is precisely in the Veneto region that the sector seems to be taking off, contrary to declining demand and cancellations of trips and stays with international destinations: the region is registering a considerable increase in bookings for the Easter period, intensified from February 28 and particularly growing in the last two weeks.
We report what second Alberto Granzotto, president of FAITA Federcamping, told Camping Management: “While the conflict in the Middle East is also seeing rising operating costs for our facilities, the high cost of flights, the search for safety and the desire for nature is pushing travelers toward the outdoor mode, where bookings and arrivals are on the rise thanks to campgrounds that can be reached by car or RV and decidedly sustainable vacations that are perceived as quieter and safer.”
Campgrounds are nature-friendly facilities, safe and regenerative locations, but in addition to the very positive ideal they enjoy, there emerges the efficiencies of services and the high quality of the proposal of an increasingly competitive open air that is attentive to sustainability and innovation that withstands even the most complex periods for international tourism.
