We are almost at the end of the month of August, time to take stock. The numbers of tourists who will have stayed in Italian campgrounds and chosen en plein air vacations in the Bel Paese exceed those of last year: 11.5 million presences (for a total of more than 71 million nights), an increase of 3.5 percent over 2023, while the number of nights increases by 1.3 percent. an improvement with occupancy ratios in beach facilities reaching 90 percent as early as mid-July.
Marco Sperapani, general manager of Faita Federcamping, confirms, “These are numbers that consolidate those of 2023, which were already positive.”
Choosing Italian open-air facilities are German tourists, who again this year take first place, on the podium also Italians and Dutch, followed by Swiss and French.
Tourists from beyond the Alps prefer the Northeast, once again the most popular Italian destination for en plein air tourism this year, but what is new for summer 2024 is the very rapid rise of regions in central and southern Italy.
As Alberto Granzotto, president of Faita, confirms, ” Unprecedented expansion and evolution in quality is taking place throughout Italy. A success that stems from major investments, in environmental sustainability, digitization and inclusion “.
The 2024 summer season seems to be closing in the best possible way for Italian open-air tourism, an excellent result with further room for improvement for the seasons to follow, focusing more and more on these last three aspects emphasized by the President.
Environmental sustainability, digitization and inclusion are key determinants of increasingly smart and up-to-date receptivity, without ever losing the most authentic contact with nature.
