With more than 22,000 kilometers of bicycle paths and greenways, France has become a favorite destination for bicycle tourists. Among the preferred lodging options, precisely campgrounds are the main choice for those who like to explore the country on two wheels. To promote and further develop this offering, Accueil Vélo has partnered with FNHPA (Fédération nationale de l’Hôtellerie de plein air) to encourage campground managers to embrace Bike Camp. This collaboration offers concrete opportunities for French campground managers, including financial supports through the Sustainable Tourism Fund, to which FNHPA has actively contributed.
Visibility for French campsites open to cyclists
Participating in this initiative means joining a nationwide network of more than 6,400 referred establishments. This not only provides visibility to participating campsites through geolocation, but also through promotion of the facilities on www.francevelotourisme.com/accueil-velo. It also allows for inclusion in cycling topoguides and tourist flyers. Adherence to the program results in increased “exposure” of campsites to bicycle tourism. Distinguishing oneself in this way implies offering adequate and quality equipment and services.
The state funds the purchase of useful equipment
Starting in 2024, the Bicycle Tourism Development program has been enriched by expanding the equipment catalog and simplifying conditions. ADEME, theFrench Agency for Ecological Transition, funds equipment and services in line with the Accueil Vélo label. This includes bicycle parking, electric bicycle charging stations, repair terminals, multi-purpose terminals, and secure luggage storage . Funding can cover up to 55% of the HTR amount (net of recoverable tax), with details available on the website.
