As Holy Week approaches, the starting signal for the season for many campsites, the occupation forecasts for Spanish establishments are very encouraging. The sector hopes to sell out bungalows and exceed 70% occupancy, with figures even better compared to 2022 and 2019, the pre-pandemic year.
Analyzing the trend in some Iberian cities in particular, 80-85% of the bungalows and 70% of the pitches are expected to be occupied in Girona. According to the president of the Girona Campsite Association and the Catalan Campsite Federation, Miquel Gotanegra. “If the weather is good and counting on last-minute bookings, which are always a lot, it’s very likely we’ll exceed those rates.”
More and more campsites in Girona are also anticipating or even choosing to remain open all year round and the confidence recovered in open-air establishments after the pandemic is due to this choice.
In Tarragona, where the Costa Daurada and Terres de l’Ebre campsites are already open, occupancy forecasts are also high, both in inland and coastal establishments. In inland campsites an occupation of 85% of the bungalows and 65% of the pitches is expected, while in coastal campsites a similar percentage is expected in the bungalows and reaching 75% in the pitches. There will be no shortage of international tourists from France, Holland or Germany on the coast.
According to the latest data released by the Spanish Federation of Campsites (FEEC), the national average occupancy of facilities for the days of Holy Week will be 90%, with hundreds of campsites that can be said to be fully booked.
“The volume of reservations so far is very good, around 90% and with many establishments already full – revealed the FEEC president, Ana Beriaín -. We are confident that the weather conditions will allow us not only to maintain this forecast, but also to increase it in the Northern and central areas of the peninsula. A large part of our customers remain national tourists who have discovered Spanish structures in recent years. Today they want to repeat this experience, attracted by the quality of our camping villages”.
Good data has also been communicated for the Italian open air sector, with 16 million national tourists ready to spend the first spring long weekend away from home according to the SWG Tourism Observatory.
