José Luis Álvarez Almeida has been elected President of Hostelería de España at theGeneral Elective Assembly held last March 18 at the headquarters of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE), in Madrid. The event was also attended by Jordi Hereu, Minister of Industry and Tourism, and Antonio Garamendi, president of CEOE.
The Asturian entrepreneur stands out for his extensive experience in the hospitality world: former president of theAsturian Hotel and Tourism Association (OTEA) since 2009, vice president of the Oviedo Chamber of Commerce, and for 7 years vice president of Hostelería de España.
With the appointment of president, he succeeds José Luis Yzuel, who passed away recently. An unforgettable figurehead, he served as the top representative of the hotel and restaurant industry for two terms, from 2017 to 2025.
New President Álvarez Almeida ‘s first words were dedicated to Yzuel himself: “He was a teacher, a guide and a friend, and his legacy will live on in each of us; his vision was always to be united and work for the sector, representing Hostelería de España at its best.”
The goal of the newly elected president is precisely to carry on the work done by his predecessor, focusing on what are currently the key points of the sector: sustainability, innovation and digitalization. In addition, he has already made clear what his main request to the various administrations will be: ” The only thing we ask is that when legislators think of regulating our industry, they listen to us, and allow us to express our opinions. In addition, the hope is to work in synergy in order to find the best solutions, feasible and practicable “.
