News for campsites in France. Atout France, the tourism development agency, has introduced its innovative platform “France Tourism Observation”. This initiative aims to provide an evidence base to support the tourism industry, including campsites and villages, by improving its quality and offer. Collaborating with the Parisian startup Cleyrop, Atout France has developed a tool based on a technological system called “sovereign” for the management of information, hosted in OVHcloud data centers in France.
The France Tourism Observation platform collects data from different sources, including statistical agencies, private organizations and the tourism sector itself, in order to develop use cases. One of the first implemented the monitoring of attendance and reservations in open-air hotels in collaboration with the Fédération National de l’hôtellerie de plein air (FNHPA) and ADN Tourisme. The platform is interconnected with the booking software of over 1,400 campsites in France, allowing a significant volume of data to be received and analyzed efficiently.
A national sustainable tourism dashboard will be created
One of the main objectives of France Tourism Observation is to also develop an understanding of the environmental, social and economic impacts of the tourism industry. The platform aims to create a “national dashboard of sustainable tourism” which will allow monitoring various aspects, including the trend of tourism in terms of international arrivals, the reduction of energy consumption and the contribution to employment. Cleyrop, the startup that developed the technology behind France Tourism Observation, offers a “turnkey” approach that has allowed Atout France to quickly become autonomous in using the platform. This solution has proven to be extremely effective, allowing Atout France to operate without having to create a dedicated data management team. Another challenge concerns the adoption of Cleyrop by all French regions and departments as the main data production tool. Atout France is currently contracting with all regions and aims to do the same with departments by 2024.
A useful program for French campsites
This will help create economies of scale in the acquisition and use of data, allowing each actor to benefit from the platform according to their needs. The Atout France platform aims to become part of the European Tourism Data Space project, a European Commission initiative dedicated to sharing and innovating tourism data. Currently, the focus is on sharing best practices, because this represents the future of the European tourism industry. France Tourism Observation is an example of how technology and collaboration can revolutionize the tourism sector, providing high-quality data to guide its development and sustainability.
