Record of bookings in German campsites: +11%

Overnight stays in German campsites increased by 11% in the first six months of 2022, compared to the previous year. This is confirmed by data from the Federal Association of the Camping Industry in Germany (Bvcd), which represents 1200 German campsites, underlining how this increase has led to even exceed the numbers of the first half of 2019, which is the last year of normality before the covid-19 pandemic. This is an excellent figure, which confirms that even in Germany, as in Italy, outdoor holidays are going well.

Statistics from the Bvcd show that the vast majority of overnight stays (92%) are attributable to German campers, while the most important foreign markets are the Netherlands (460,000 overnight stays), Switzerland (220,696 overnight stays) and Belgium (58,130 overnight stays).

However, Christian Günther, general manager of the Bvcd, remains cautious, commenting: “It is difficult to make predictions for the second half of the year. The activity during the summer holidays varied from region to region and, in light of the uncertain forecasts and the current burdens for consumers, we look to autumn with lower expectations”.
