The mild temperatures that made winter 2022-2023 less harsh are anticipating (or prolonging) presences in Italian campsites, especially encouraging winter camping. From the north to the south of Italy in 2023, the “struggle for seasonal adjustment” seems less complex for campsite owners, notwithstanding the seriousness of the climatic situation which has led to an average increase in temperatures of almost one degree.
In Tuscany, realities such as Miramare have communicated the opening throughout the year and the availability to host in heated spaces. On Camping.it it is already possible to trace the Italian campsites open for 12 months and thanks to the online price lists it is also possible to calculate the average cost of an annual camping fee.
In Switzerland, too, there is open talk of seasonal adjustment and an increase in winter camping activities. The president of the Ticino Turismo association and director of the Campofelice Camping Village, Simone Patelli, has already recognized the opening of campsites over 12 months “a fairly frequent theme even at the level of the cantonal association”. Patelli, however, remains cautious: “At the moment – he specifies – there is no need to open all the campsites, because there is a risk of eroding what others are doing well”. Also looking at the impact on employment, he finally recalled how a possible opening all year round could in any case be an opportunity “also to be able to offer work contracts to seasonal staff, perhaps longer or even with an indefinite duration”.
